The reason for this request is because the scanned documents from one of our customers are viewable in Windows Photo Viewer but not in the Windows Picture & Fax Viewer that comes with Windows XP. We need a way for customers with Windows XP to be able to view these documents and would prefer it to be a Microsoft solution, not 3rd party. Step Two: Set Windows Photo Viewer as Your Default Image Viewer. To associate an image file with Photo Viewer, right-click any type of image file—for example, a.png,.jpg,.gif, or.bmp file—and select Open With Choose Another App.
Microsoft Picture and Fax Viewer is a software application for Windows 7 that is included with the purchase of the operating system. Not all manufacturers install the Picture and Fax application prior to distributing the system. If you do not have the application installed, do so yourself at no additional charge.
Step 1
Open the 'Start' menu and type 'Add or remove programs,' then press 'Enter.'
Step 2
Click 'Turn Windows Features on or off' on the left side of the window.
Step 3
Wait as all installed Windows components are indexed. They will be displayed on your screen within five minutes.
Step 4
Press the '+' symbol next to 'Print and Document Services,' then click 'Windows Fax and Scan.' Click 'OK' once it is checked.
Wait as the software is installed. Place a check mark in 'Open Microsoft Picture and Fax Viewer' when the completion dialogue appears, then click 'Finish.'
